Don't Hide Your Scars

Today is five minute friday...  that's when a bunch of blogger friends gather together at Kate Motaung's place to write about an everyday average word for only five minutes. So follow the link and join the conversation.  Today's prompt is :: break

Go.

Most of us want to hide our flaws, scars, imperfections and any sign of damage… whether physical or emotional.

We want to cover up our breaks and pretend they never happened.

There’s this idea of “normal” we try to obtain and want to project. We want to fit in.  Look like we belong, like everyone else.  Act like all the rest. Talk and sound like those around us.

But why do we want to the “like” anyone else, when we are already an original?

Have you heard of Kintsugi? It’s the Japanese are of repairing broken pottery using gold. Rather than disguising the breakage, kintsugi restores the broken item incorporating the damage into the aesthetic of the restored item, making it part of the object’s history.

Turning broken into beautiful.

"He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."
Psalm 147:3

And this is the same way God mends our broken pieces.

There is such hope in our brokenness.  All of those pieces don’t need to be discarded. If we give them over to the Master’s hands, he can not only put them back together, but create something new even more beautiful than before.

Stop.
