10 Proverbs to Help 'Tame The Tongue'... & 2 free printables

"The wise store up knowledge but the mouth of a fool invites ruin."
Proverbs 10:14
wise store up knowledge :: which they get by reading, prayer, hearing the word of God and good conversation; then it is kept / stored in their hearts, minds and memories so not to forget it because it is treasured and highly valued; so that it can be shared at the proper time and proper occasions to benefit, support or encourage others.

mouth of a fool invites ruin :: by contrast, the foolish are always uttering carelessly what may bring trouble on themselves and others.

Have your words ever gotten you in trouble?

  • Wrong word at the exact wrong time?
  • Rambling on with too many words and something embarrassing slipped out?
  • Spoke too quickly and it led to trouble?
Oh mine have, all too often. There seems to be a fast track from my brain to my mouth at just the most inconvenient time.

People's names, scripture references, even everyday common words can seem to find a road block between my brain and my mouth when I am wanting to remember and retell them.

But not those quick, snarky comebacks.

When provoked, they seem to have full access to the 'passing lane' and can blow right past my better words and across the finish line of my lips like it's raceday at Daytona.

Some days, I just need to put on the brakes.

In her latest book, Keep It Shut, Proverbs 31 Ministries Author & Speaker Karen Ehman remarks that she likes to think of Proverbs as the Twitter of the Old Testament. "Snappy sayings and crisp quotes! Every verse is written to make us wise. And they're very quotable..."

So today I'm sharing with you 10 great "tweets" from Proverbs we can us to help us tame the tongue.
