31 Scriptures about Worship

It had been a hard season.

Even though I grew up attending church, I had, over the years, let life and career and family and all else take priority. But with all I found myself battling, I was calling out to God. And he was calling me back to him.

As I walked in the back door of the church, the service had begun and the congregation was singing joyfully. I found a seat and started to join in, but I couldn't get the words out. Tears began to flow down my face and I was thankful for the music and dimmed lights as I stood there blubbering.

I knew I was finally where God wanted me to be. At his feet.

You might be thinking it was the music, or maybe even the lyrics - honestly, I don't even know what song was being sung - or maybe just a surge of emotion. I get that. I know all of that is what I always thought of as worship. The time in church when we sing. We call that worship.

But worship isn't defined by a time or place, by being in church or even singing. True worship is not confined to what we do in church or open praise (although these things are both good, and we are told in the Bible to do them).

True worship is the acknowledgment of God and all His power and glory in everything we do.

In. Every. Thing. We. Do.

Our words, our actions, our interactions with others, our work, our play, our money, our time, our everything.  The highest form of praise and worship is obedience to Him and His Word. To do this, we must know God; spend time with Him and build a relationship with Him.

Worship is to glorify and exalt God—to show our loyalty and admiration to our Father, through everything that we do.
"Worship is always a choice. At times it’s an easy, straightforward one. When life is peaceful and painless, the choice to respond to God in thanksgiving and praise may not be such a hard one to make. But at other times in our lives, worship becomes a much gutsier decision." ~Matt Redman

Dear Lord,
As the new day dawns I rise and come to You overflowing in worship. Singing Your praises thrills my heart and brings happiness to my soul. It is with a tender spirit that I seek Your face, yearning to be close to You. Whether it is the quiet whisper from my lips or the mighty shouts to the mountaintops, the adoration I feel for You is beauty wrapped in holiness. May my heart be shored up in truth, courage, and confidence as I follow You Jesus. Your presence gives me peace and I will forever worship Your Name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
